Nature Hikes and Walks
Activities available to visitors on safari in Kibale Forest include hiking and nature walks in Kibale National Park. To participate in the Nature Walks & Hiking safaris, like with all other activities in Kibale National Park, reservations must be made in advance.
There are long hikes that take the hiker all the way across the park. Although the park also provides shorter Nature Walks & Hiking safaris, such as the half-day nature walk safari and the one-day nature walk safari, these safaris typically last between two and six days.
Both Kanyanchu and Sebitoli are the starting points for these hiking safaris and nature treks in Kibale National Park. You can travel via the settlements of Kikoni, Nyakalongo, and Nyaibanda, which are close to the forest, on these nature hikes. You have the opportunity to engage with the residents and their traditions as you navigate these communities. The Bakiga and Batoro, who come from the Runyakitara-speaking tribes of Uganda, make up the majority of the local population.
Since a Nature Walks & Hiking safari in Kibale National Park may accommodate only six persons, reservations are strongly encouraged.
Travelers can arrange long nature walks and hiking safaris, spending nearly the entire day at the camp sites that are put up in the nearby settlements of Nyakalongo, Nyaibanda, and Kikoni, and returning in the evening to rest and unwind. Porters can be hired from these settlements to assist tourists with luggage carrying and to facilitate nature treks.
In order to observe the nocturnal animal species, vacationers can also arrange night walks. You will be quite fortunate to see the forest’s primary inhabitants. You may be fortunate enough to see chimpanzees up in the trees during your nighttime strolls in the forest. Around 7:30 p.m., night walks begin, with participants carrying strong torches and an armed guide. Two hours later, the travelers head back to the campgrounds. Rare animals seen on these nighttime nature hikes and trekking safaris include the civet, potto, bushbaby, crickets, nightjar, and the exhilarating hyrax.
In contrast to chimpanzee monitoring and habituation operations, these walks are less expensive. In Kibale National Park, nature walk safaris cost $30, while night walks are slightly more expensive at $40. Not to mention that each visitor entering the national park must pay a USD 40 park entrance charge in order to participate in any of these treks, bird watching safaris cost USD 30.
