Sector of Ruhija
One of Bwindi National Park’s four gorilla trekking regions, Ruhija sector/region is home to more than three gorilla families. Trekking through the forest to breathtaking vistas of the far-off Virunga mountains and green rolling hills is a delightful experience when visiting this Ruhija area.
This gorilla area is conveniently located near Buhoma and Kabale, to the east of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Furthermore, the Ruhija region is mostly utilized for scientific study and is regarded as the most topographically diversified sector.
At an elevation of more than 2,500 meters, the Ruhija sector offers unparalleled vistas of forest crest after forest ridge, extending all the way to the Virunga mountains.
You can hike to the summit of Rwamunyonyi Peak, also known as the hill of many birds, which is 2,607 meters high, during your visit to the Ruhija area. Because of a sizable wetland nearby, Rwamunyonyi is the coldest and highest peak in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
Elephants are exclusively found in the Ruhija part of the park. Antelopes and monkeys are among the other creatures.
Three gorilla families are completely habituated in this area, and fewer permits are sold out every day. How to go to Bwindi National Park in Ruhija
Well, the eastern part of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is where Ruhija is situated. It provides the quickest route from the sector to Queen Elizabeth National Park in the north for a safari. The Ishasha district, home of the unusual tree-climbing lions, is estimated to be a 3-hour journey away.
You can choose to drive north of the Mweya Peninsular and the Kazinga Channel, the Center of Queens, or stay the night at Ishasha. Among the activities that can be combined with gorilla trekking in Queen are nature walks, game drives, boat cruises, and chimpanzee tracking.
The Kyaguriro group, the Bitukura family, and the Oruzogo family are among the gorilla families in Ruhija. The Uganda Wildlife Authority, or “UWA,” must grant permission in advance for anyone to walk to the Kyaguriro gorilla family, which is designated for research purposes. Each permit costs $700 USD. The Uganda Wildlife Authority, which oversees all national parks, is the direct source for Uganda gorilla permits.
Ruhija Sector Gorilla Trekking
One of the most popular activities in Bwindi National Park is gorilla trekking, which is also Uganda Safaris’ top selling activity. A briefing of gorilla rules and regulations is given before the activity begins in the morning. A park ranger will then allocate you to your designated gorilla family and put you in groups of eight. The guide, who is familiar with this woodland, will lead you. Depending on where the guide last saw the gorillas the day before, gorilla trekking might take anywhere from thirty to seven hours. However, after you locate them, you will get an hour to spend with them, observe their eating habits, learn about their behaviors, and take pictures and movies for your own memories.

When to go;
June through August and December through February are the ideal times of year to visit Ruhija. Safari is more comfortable and fulfilling during these dry months of the year.
How to get there
Depending on the state of the roads, the travel from Kampala to the Ruhija area takes eight to nine hours.
The simplest way to go to Ruhija is to take a local aircraft from Entebbe Airport (also known as “Aero link Uganda”) to Kihihi Airstrip, which takes around 1:15 hours.
