Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
The Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is situated in the Nakasongola district in central Uganda, spanning approximately 164 square kilometers from Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. This Ziwa Rhino sanctuary spans approximately 70 square kilometers and was officially designated as a sanctuary in 2005, with the purpose of preserving a natural habitat for the Rhino species. These Rhino species inhabit a secure area surrounded by a 2-meter electric fence, significantly curbing activities like poaching that have historically diminished their population. Additionally, the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary embarked on its conservation journey with just around 6 rhinos, 4 of which were relocated from Solio Ranch in Kenya, while the other two were brought over from the Disney Animal Kingdom located in Florida, USA.
The Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary stands out as a unique destination in Uganda, renowned for its population of Rhino species. It is home to over 32 white Rhinos, all under the careful management of the Uganda Wildlife Authority, a government agency dedicated to the protection of the country’s wildlife resources.
